5 places in India where entry is not allowed without travel permits
We all are aware that most international visits require visas to enter that respective country. But did you know that you also require such documents to enter parts of your own country? Known as the Inner Line Permit (ILP), there are certain places in India, for which even Indians are required to have that permit to visit. This is because these places are majorly sensitive places situated near the international border of India, and that movement of people in those areas are manageable or regulated. If you are curious by now, here are some of the places that you need to be aware of that require a permit for your access.
Arunachal Pradesh
Located at the junction of Myanmar, China, and Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh requires non-locals to obtain Inner Line Permits (ILPs) due to its strategic significance. Even though the process will not be a hectic one, one needs to avail the permit for hassle-free journey. One can secure permits from the resident commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh in cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Shillong, and Guwahati.
Nagaland
Bordering Myanmar, Nagaland is another destination in the Northeast that is known for its distinctive tribes, and is gaining attention in the tourist radar. If you intend to visit this place, you will need to obtain an Inner Line Permit, which shouldn’t be a matter of stress. You can get this permit issued in places like Kohima, Dimapur, Shillong, New Delhi, Mokokchung, and Kolkata, or accessed online.
Mizoram
Mizoram, which shares its borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, requires an Inner Line Permit for entry. Permits can be obtained from the liaison officer in cities like Guwahati, Silchar, Kolkata, Shillong, and New Delhi.
Lakshadweep
If you are keen to travel to Lakshadweep, after this serene Union Territory of India was all highlighted with the visit of PM Modi, be ready to get your permit too. As per the reports, a police clearance certificate and identification documents are needed to apply, and an online option for securing permits is available.
Manipur
In Manipur, the permit system was introduced in December 2019. While there is a temporary permit available that will allow you to stay there for up to 30 days, one can even get regular permits that remain valid for 90 days. Applicants must provide nationality proof and recent photographs to obtain a permit.
