Karan Johar has revealed that the film is a love triangle and Fawad-Alia have never shared screen space earlier and it will be interesting to see their chemistry. In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Siddharth Malhotra said that "the kissing scene between Alia and me in SOTY was odd to rehearse. We didn't realize that it was so technical". He went on to add that "there were many things to consider like the angles of our lips, head and nose. After a while it became boring."

Arjun Kapoor and Alia entertained one and all in 2 States. The chemistry between them created a new record. They both share a great camaraderie in real life too. In an interview with TOI, Arjun said, "I really like kissing Alia. She is the best kisser. I don't look at it as a comparison. Everyone is different. Varun plays the titular middle class Delhi boy Humpty Sharma & Alia is the small town girl, Kavya Pratap Singh. This a romantic film, set in North India. However, there were reports that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has asked the makers of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ to delete the smooch sequence between Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. Karan Johar, who is producing the film is quite upset with the board’s decision. Apparently, KJo’s team even questioned the board’s suggestion saying that in the recent past, several films featuring smooching attracted no such instructions, then why such instructions for ‘HSKD’?
