Alia Bhatt for Highway
Alia Bhatt has indeed had a very successful year at the box office. The actress had three big releases in 2014 - Highway, 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Alia has been nominated under the Best Actor in a leading role (female) category for her first release of the year, Highway. The film was a road trip story in which Alia's character is kidnapped by Randeep Hooda. The actress shared an amazing chemistry with Randeep Hooda. With this movie, Alia Bhatt also made her singing debut. She lent her voice to the song, 'Sooha saha.'

Kangana Ranaut for Queen
Kangana Ranaut has always impressed everyone with her out-of-the-box performance. Last year the actress had two releases - Queen and Revolver Rani. Queen was a much appreciated film and did well at the box-office too. In the film, Kangana goes to Paris all by herself and her journey abroad was an enthralling experience for the audience. Kangana's performance in Queen has been nominated under the Best Actor in a leading role (female) category in the 60th Filmfare Awards.

Madhuri Dixit for Dedh Ishqiya
After Aaja Nachle in 2007, Madhuri Dixit returned to the silver screen only last year. Making a fresh beginning in Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit was seen playing a graceful Begum Para in Dedh Ishqiya. The actress looked every inch the elegant diva that she is, in the film which had a nawabi flavour. Madhuri was seen romancing Naseeruddin Shah in Dedh Ishqiya.

Priyanka Chopra for Mary Kom
Priyanka Chopra pushed the envelope with the Mary Kom biopic. The actress who has played the diva many times in her films, surprised everyone with her tough-girl act in the film. Priyanka Chopra had practised a lot for the role where she was required to play a champion boxer. She used to religiously work out in the gym and has even confessed that Mary Kom was indeed one of the toughest roles of her career.

Rani Mukerji for Mardaani
Mardaani was Rani Mukerji's first release after her grand wedding to the Chopra scion, Aditya Chopra. The film went in sync with the mood of the year, highlighting issues that plague women. Rani played the character of a tough cop in Mardaani, who uncovers ugly truths. Dressed in formal pants and shirts, Rani braved a role which is usually not attempted by actresses. Madaani received great reviews at the box-office and was also appreciated by the critics.

Sonam Kapoor is the ultimate fashionista when it comes to Bollywood. However, her act as the bumbling physiotherapist in the film Khoobsurat was much acclaimed. The film was a remake of the Rekha-starrer film by the same name. Sonam Kapoor fit the character of a 'royal misfit' completely. She romanced newbie Fawad Khan in the film. Overall Khoobsurat garnered positive reviews for the actress. This year, at the 60th Filmfare Awards, Sonam Kapoor has been nominated in the Best Actor in a leading role (female) category.
