Mental health to selfies: Times when Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, opened up on social media

Aamir Khan's daughter, Ira Khan, has carved her own niche in the limelight, not just as a star kid but as a voice advocating for mental health awareness and self-expression. Through her candid posts on social media, she offers glimpses into her journey of self-discovery, navigating the complexities of fame, relationships, and independence.

Mental health advocacy

Ira Khan bravely addressed her struggles with mental health, acknowledging the privileges and pressures that come with being a celebrity offspring. In an interview with India Today, she candidly shared her journey of self-acceptance, urging others to confront their own battles with compassion. She said, “I was like, ‘What are you useless human beings? You don't have the right to be depressed; you have so much privilege.’.”

Self-reflection on Instagram

Ira admits to occasionally 'stalking' herself on Instagram, reflecting on the evolution of her online persona. Despite feeling the weight of her posts, she recognizes the importance of authenticity and strives to reclaim the joy and spontaneity that once characterized her profile. Her Instagram post once read, “I stalk myself on Instagram sometimes. I feel like I used to have such a fun and interesting Instagram. Now it's all heavy. Probably because that's how I've been feeling.”

Selfie

Earlier, in a series of selfies, Ira challenged perceptions of her demeanor, asserting her right to be unapologetically herself. She confronts the stereotype of a serious demeanor, advocating for self-acceptance and celebrating the beauty of authenticity. In an earlier Instagram pic, she wrote, “I turned the camera on, and this is what my face looks like right now. This is the expression on my face. People have said that I look very serious. When I am actually just being normal. This is my normal face. It’s not smiley or happy, but it’s not unhappy either. I’d say it is pretty neutral.”

5/5

Independence

Transitioning into adulthood, Ira shares glimpses of her newfound independence, from moving into her own home to embracing the sense of belonging that comes with it. Through snapshots and heartfelt captions, she documents the milestones of her journey toward self-sufficiency. In July last year, when she shifted to her new house, she posted a selfie and wrote, “‘I’m home.’ It’s a nice feeling.” At the time when she moved into her new home, she shared pictures of the new place. She had written in July, “Look at my new home,” and added the hashtags “#movingout, #myspace, #firsttime, #newbeginnings, #milestone, #cantwait, #lettheadultingbegin, and #manvshouse.”
