Tezaab

Madhuri Dixit's launchpad to fame was 'Tezaab.' Madhuri's song "Ek Do Teen" took over the country and became a national sensation. As Mohini, a young dancer caught in a gritty love story, Madhuri combined glamour and grace with vulnerability and innocence. 'Tezaab' truly established her place as a legitimate super star and gave direction to a legendary career that has spanned over three decades.

Dil

Madhuri's next stint was featuring opposite Aamir Khan in 'Dil,' a charming love story filled with youthful zeal and tension. Madhuri's performance as a rebellious young woman with a soft warm heart resonated deeply with audiences. The film was a box office success, earning her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress, while beginning her legacy as the undisputed queen of romance in the 90s. "Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai," "Mujhe Neend Na Aaye," and more music added to her growing radiance as Bollywood's leading lady.

Saajan

Madhuri created magic in 'Saajan' with Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, and it cemented her status at No 1. As Pooja - a poetess in a love triangle - she brought innocence, dignity and kindness. Her dazzling screen presence, as well as beautiful songs like “Bahut Pyar Karte Hain” and “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai,” made her the heart of the movie. At this point, Madhuri established that she could add emotional nuance to romantic dramas.

Beta

Madhuri played Saraswati in 'Beta', a feisty woman who protested injustice in her in-law's home. With “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga,” she earned the title of “Dhak Dhak Girl” and proved she had the ability to showcase emotional depth as well as screen presence.

5/10

Khalnayak

Her performance in 'Khalnayak' as Ganga - a police officer conflicted between duty and love - showcased power and sensitivity, but the true immortalization of the role was with the iconic “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai” dance sequence which created a sensation across the country and firmly established Madhuri as Bollywood's dancing diva.

6/10

Hum Aapke Hain Koun

Very few films can create an impression of close-knit family warmth and festive atmosphere as 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!. Madhuri was like a heart and soul propped up by wide-eyed innocence and poise on top of an emotional anchor as Nisha. The song was a huge hit ("Didi Tera Devar Deewana") and, in the end (that is with respect to the film), she made every possible moment larger than life.

Dil to Pagal Hai

In 'Dil to Pagal Hai', she seemed to put warmth and elegance to the character of Pooja, who had to choose between being a friend and a lover. With respect to friendship, Shah Rukh Khan and her dance numbers that were moments to remember. 'Dil to Pagal Hai' won Madhuri a Filmfare Award and pushed her into the position of Hindi Film's reigning star of the nineties.

Devdas

In 'Devdas' she gifted us with one of her best performances as Chandramukhi. She had to balance dignity and a heartbroken woman who could live in that traumatic space. She made that character strong yet compassionate. Her magical dance in “Maar Dala” will forever remain in Bollywood's cultural memory, showcasing her consummate wood-showmanship performance (and mastery over classical dance).

A graceful comeback with ‘Aaja Nachle’

After a brief hiatus, Madhuri returned to the silver screen with ‘Aaja Nachle’. Playing Dia, a dancer determined to save her old theatre, she reminded audiences why she remains Bollywood’s ultimate dancing queen. Though the film had a modest box-office run, her flawless expressions, energy, and elegance in songs like the title track “Aaja Nachle” reaffirmed her legacy.

10/10

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Just when fans thought they could say bye-bye to seeing Madhuri dance, she pulled a rabbit from the hat with a loving cameo in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'. She made the song “Ghagra”, which she did with Ranbir Kapoor, a real treat for the eye. With her effortless grace in movements, mesmerizing expressions, and unbeatable moves, she showed that not only could she still compete with the best Bollywood has to offer but actually surpass them. The number became an instant favorite, and also reminded us why she is still referred to as the eternal queen of Bollywood.
