Amitabh Bachchan to Ayushmann Khurrana: Actors who've played doctors on-screen

If one looks at Hindi cinema in the last few years, 'doctor' as a profession hasn't been tapped much into in our movies. There are very few actors who've played actual doctors in Hindi movies. Of course, we have a cult film like 'Munnabhai MBBS' that largely spoke about it, but the film had Munna faking himself as a doctor though. That was a whole new genre in itself while the film continues to remain iconic. Meanwhile, as Ayushmann Khurrana starrer 'Doctor G' hits the screens today, here's listing out actors who've played reliable doctors on the silver screen.

2/5

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan played Rajesh Khanna's doctor (an oncologist) in the 1971 classic 'Anand'. His character named Bhaskar Banerjee is fondly remembered as 'Babu Moshai' even today as Anand (Khanna's character) called him that. It saw Bachchan in an all-together different light from his angry young man characters. The chemistry and bonding between both the actors remains a major highlight of the film.

3/5

Ayushmann Khurrana

Ayushmann Khurrana starrer 'Doctor G' released today and the actor plays a gynecologist in the film. The film is a hilarious take on his struggle of being a man in a profession which is considered mostly for women. There are stereotypes surrounding it as he's asked to get rid of his 'male touch' by his senior Shefali Shah. The film tracks his journey of first accepting himself in this profession before the patients accept him. It's a film with lots of comedy along with a social message and the actor is already getting some great feedback for his performance.

4/5

Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan played Dr Jehangir Khan who was a psychiatrist in 'Dear Zindagi'. His character was fondly called 'Jug', and he treated Alia Bhatt in the film. But this one remains one of his most loved characters because he brought in a lot of depth to his role and the way he brought his charm to the character was a huge take-back for the audience. The life lessons he gave in the film continue to be remembered by the audience even today.

5/5

Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor played a doctor in 'Kabir Singh' which was a remake of 'Arjun Reddy'. The actor met real doctors to prepare for his role in the film. He had said during the film's promotions that since Kabir is an accomplished surgeon and the best in his field, the craft also had to be visible in the way he portrayed his part. Of course, his angry lover side and the film's love story was the crux of 'Kabir Singh' but medical backdrop also had a huge part to play in the story.
