49 years of 'Julie': Composer Rajesh Roshan reflects on its iconic song, 'My Heart is Beating' and singer Preeti Sagar's timeless talent

As 'Julie,' one of the boldest films of 1975, marks its 49th anniversary in March, composer Rajesh Roshan reminisces about the iconic English song 'My Heart is Beating' sung by Preeti Sagar.

Rajesh Roshan recalled, "My father, Roshan ji, used to listen to the famous singer Skeeter Davis from yesteryears, which influenced me greatly. When the opportunity arose to introduce an English number for the first time in Bollywood, I was excited. Despite my search for the right singer being unsuccessful, someone recommended Preeti Sagar, known for her work in jingles, which boosted my confidence. During the recording session at Mehboob studios, she effortlessly synced with the song and hardly took any time to deliver the final take. Hats off to her! To this day, I haven't found a singer who can match her talent."



Elaborating further, he added, "Equal credit goes to the divine lyrics penned by Harindranath Chattopadhyay. The lyrics flowed spontaneously from his pen like honey! I vividly remember sitting in the drawing room of his house as he softly guided me with the words."




Rajesh Roshan also expressed his gratitude to Mr Ram Chhabra, the renowned Bollywood distributor, who introduced him to Mr Nagi Reddy (Producer of Julie) and Mr Chattopadhyay (lyricist).
