Shooting outside Rihanna’s home: What we know so far

Imagine a lazy Sunday afternoon ruined by the threat to one's life. Such an event occurred on March 8, 2026, at pop icon Rihanna's luxurious mansion in the exclusive Beverly Hills Post Office community. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), as reported by CBS News, police were called to a 911 report at 1:15 p.m. local time after reports of shots fired at the colonial-style home where Rihanna lives with her partner A$AP Rocky and their three young children. Luckily, no one was hurt, despite five people being inside at the time

How the incident unfolded

The incident began when a white Tesla pulled up across the street from the property's front gate. The suspect, from inside the vehicle, opened fire, discharging a hail of bullets, according to police dispatch reports, as reported by BBC, where it is indicated that there were about 10 shots, according to the Los Angeles Times. Bullets hit the ornate gate, the outer wall of the house, and even hit an Airstream RV parked in the driveway, leaving stark evidence of the assault, as indicated in aerial shots taken by news helicopters. According to reports from the LA Times, testimonies from witnesses and dispatchers indicated that the suspect, a woman with braided hair, wearing a cream-colored blouse, driving a vehicle with a dirty undercarriage, was the assailant.

Swift response by the LAPD

LAPD's swift response turned the chase into a textbook takedown. A helicopter spotted the fleeing Tesla just minutes later, tracking it about eight miles away to the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping center. Officers pulled over the vehicle without further incident, recovering an AR-15-style assault rifle and seven spent casings from inside, directly linking it to the crime scene, as confirmed by LAPD spokesperson Armen Arias and Sgt. Jonathan de Vera. The 35-year-old suspect, identified Monday as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz from Orlando, Florida, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. She was booked into jail early that Monday with bail set at a staggering $10.255 million, per CBS News and LA Times reports.

Aftermath of the attack

Rihanna, the Barbados-born superstar known for hits like "Umbrella" and her billion-dollar Fenty empire, has stayed silent publicly. Sources close to the family told NBC News that everyone inside remained safe, a small mercy amid the trauma. The shooting has sent ripples through the star-studded enclave, heightening fears for other high-profile residents. According to BBC News, the street was cordoned off as detectives scoured for clues, with neighbors left stunned by the brazen daylight assault.
