Popular Bollywood singers who have crooned Bhojpuri songs

Bhojpuri cinema has grown leaps and bounds in the recent years. Not only are the Bhojpuri films popular, their quirky and peppy songs too are loved by the audience all over. Like Bollywood, songs are major part of their films and so various popular Bollywood singers too have lent their voice for the Bhojpuri actors. Here we take a look at some well known Bollywood singers who have crooned for the Bhojpuri films.

Rightly called as the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar is one of legendary singers we have in our country today. And more than anything it is an honour when she sings for a particular film or lends her voice for a particular actress. She has reportedly recorded songs for thousand of Hindi films and has sung songs in over 36-regional Indian and foreign languages. Lata ji has also has sung some hit Bhojpuri songs such as ‘E Chanda Mama’, ‘Naihar Chhutal Jaay’, ’Sapna Dekh Juda Gaile Jiyara’, ‘Hey Ganga Maiya Tohe Piyari Chadhayibo’ and others.

It is a majorly known fact that Asha Bhosle is the sister of singer Lata Mangeshkar. She started her career in 1943 and has done playback singing for over a thousand Bollywood movies. She has also recorded several private albums and participated in numerous solo concerts all over the world. Some hit Bhojpuri songs sung by Asha are ‘Jab Hum Jaai Naiharwan’, ‘Chand Suroj Ke Lajaweli’, ‘Baari Umariya Larikaiyaan Gawanwa’, ‘Piyasya Bhujade Goriya’, ‘Hamaar Piyawa’ and many more. She made her acting debut in 2013 from the film ‘Mai’ and received good response from the audience.

Alka Yagnik reportedly holds a record of winning Best Female Playback Singer award most times. She is a noted singer in Indian cinema with a career spanning of over three decades. Her mother Shubha Yagnik was a singer of Indian classical music. Some hit Bhojpuri song of Alka Yagnik is ‘Chhoot Jaaye Jagwa’, ‘Ye Balma Pardesi’, ‘Aankh Mein Suratiya’, ‘Aye Doctor Babu’ and many more. Alka’s sung her first song for the film ‘Payal Ki Jhankaar’ in 1980.

Udit Narayan is a singer whose songs mainly featured in Nepali and Bollywood movies. He has sung thousands of songs in 36 different languages. Udit Narayan gave his voice to some Bhojpuri songs such as ‘Odhani Ke Rang Pila’, ‘Bhagwan Banavale Baade’, ‘Ham Tohara Ke Dil De Dehli’, ‘Jaan Tohke Jaanile’, ’Suna Sajanava ho’ and many more. His Mother Bhuvneshwari Devi was a folk singer and encouraged him to pursue music as a career.

Bollywood singer Anuradha Paudwal who has been awarded many times for her voice, also sung in Bhojpuri cinema. She gave her melodious voice to Bhojpuri songs such as ‘Bol Bol Babua Ji Bol’, ‘O Baaki Dhobiniya’, ‘Sajna Gayile Pardes’, ‘Jaiba To Ja’ and many more. Anuradha married to a music composer Arun Paudwal and has a son named Aditya Paudwal and a daughter named Kavita Paudwal, who is also a singer.
