Most-anticipated film releases in April, Tollywood braces for Box Office clash

It’s a breath of fresh air for the cinema hall owners and film distributors. Businesses are getting back to normalcy with pandemic curbs being eased across India. The craze surrounding ‘RRR’ has brought some good news for the stakeholders. This April there will be plenty of choices for Bengali cine buffs as films like ‘Kishmish’, ‘The Eken’, ‘Raavan’ and more are finally all geared up for their theatrical release. It will be a bucket of entertainment for Tollywood box office and also a clash as viewers will surely be divided with so many films releasing in such a short span. Let’s take a look at the most-anticipated films that are releasing this April.

‘Abbar Kanchenjungha’ – April 1

With a galaxy of stars including Saswata Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Arpita Chatterjee, Tnushree Chakraborty and others, Raajhorshee De-directed ‘Abbar Kanchenjungha’ is all about Bangaliyana and nostalgia. Raajhorshee has tried to weave a story of Darjeeling, Christmas and Kanchenjungha in his film paying homage to Satyajit Ray. It's a complete family film celebrating nostalgia, Bangaliana, Christmas celebrations in the enchanting location of Darjeeling with Kanchenjhungha as a background.

‘Mahananda’ – April 8

Arindam Sil’s socio-political drama starring Gargee Roychowdhury, Debshankar Haldar, Ishaa Saha and others in key roles, revolves around the story of an author Mahananda whose personality bears similarities with the life and persona of Mahasweta Devi.

‘The Eken’ – April 14

Ekenbabu is finally making his big screen debut in Jaydeep Mukherjee’s thriller. During his tour to Darjeeling with Bapi and Pramatha, Ekendra Sen got the chance to meet the famous film star Bipasha Mitra and also got an offer to investigate a missing ancestral photograph of hers. Simultaneously, he also gets an offer to work on a murder case. It will be a delight to see Anirban Chakrabarti as Ekenbabu on the big screen.

‘Abhijaan’ – April 15

Soumitra Chattopadhyay’s biopic is finally releasing this April. The Parambrata Chattopadhyay directorial sees Soumitra Chattopadhyay who passed away in 2020 in his elderly age while Jisshu Sengupta will essay the role of a younger Soumitra. Apart from Jisshu, Paoli Dam will be seen as Suchitra Sen. In this biopic, Soumitra’s life will be seen from a certain perspective, not just as a film actor whom everybody in Bengal knows.

‘Kishmish’ – April 29

The hype surrounding Dev and Rukmini Maitra’s upcoming film ‘Kishmish’ is already making fans crazy. The rom-com, directed by Rahool Mukherjee, sees Dev and Rukmini embark on a quest to discover the depth of love. The romantic comedy, with some exciting 2D animation, talks about love in three different timelines. One of the stories has a political background too. What today’s generation thinks about love will be shown in this film.

‘Raavan’ – April 29

There will be a massive box office clash in Tollywood as both Jeet and Dev’s films will clash on April 29. It will be interesting to see which film gets the upper hand. M. N. Raj’s film ‘Raavan’ will see Jeet in a completely different avatar. It revolves around a man who is seen fighting against an evil person who does bad deeds. Apart from Jeet, Tnusree will be seen as a top cop while Lahoma Bhattacharya is making her debut opposite Jeet.
