After a successful festival run, Rudrajit Roy gears up for theatrical release

After a successful run across several international film festivals, filmmaker Rudrajit Roy is preparing for the theatrical release of his latest Bengali feature, Pinjar, on July 10.The drama examines themes of emotional confinement, identity, trauma and freedom, using powerful metaphors to reflect on the invisible social and psychological barriers that shape people's lives. Through a layered narrative, the film seeks to spark conversations around the silent struggles individuals often endure.Featuring an ensemble cast comprising Joy Sengupta, Sagnik Mukherjee, Mallika Banerjee, Mamata Shankar, Satakshi Nandy, Ishan Mazumder, Samiul Alam, Tathagata Mukherjee and Swastidipa Rabidas, the film has steadily built anticipation among cinephiles following its international festival journey.Presented by Chasing Dreams Films in association with Bell Jar Films, the film has garnered attention for its evocative storytelling, emotionally layered narrative and socially relevant themes.The project has been screened at several prominent festivals, including the Chicago South Asian Film Festival, South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, Indian Film Festival of Sydney, International Indian Film Festival Toronto, Third Eye Asian Film Festival, Asian Film Festival Barcelona and London Bengali Film Festival. It was also selected for the 31st edition of Kolkata International Film Festival.Speaking about the response to the film, Roy said, “Pinjar speaks about the invisible cages people live in every day – emotionally, socially and psychologically. The love and recognition the film has received across festivals worldwide has been truly overwhelming and deeply encouraging for our entire team.”The film's cinematography has been helmed by Manas Bhattacharyya, who used vintage manual Nikon prime lenses dating back nearly six decades to create a textured and timeless visual aesthetic. The screenplay has been written by Rahul Roye, who also contributed to the production design.Sound designer Aneesh Basu crafted the film's immersive soundscape using authentic bird sounds recorded over a year by Sandeep Chakraborty. The lyrics have been penned by Premangshu Das and Ambarish Majumdar.
