Trichy: The 103rd birth anniversary of former chief minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi was celebrated on Wednesday with floral tributes and ‘semmozhi naal’ processions across central districts.In Karunanidhi’s ancestral village of Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district, DMK functionaries paid rich tributes at his ancestral residence, now known as ‘Muthuvelar Library’ and ‘Anjugam Study’. DMK’s Nagapattinam district secretary N Gowthaman led the event. Party workers garlanded statues of Karunanidhi and his family members and distributed sweets and refreshments to the public.In Tiruvarur, Karunanidhi’s hometown, DMK cadres led by Tiruvarur MLA Poondi K Kalaivanan paid floral tributes at multiple sites. They garlanded the statue at Kalaignar Kottam in Kattur, the portraits at Anjugam memorial in Kattur, and also paid respects at Karunanidhi’s childhood residence in Tiruvarur. The party workers also distributed food to the public.In Trichy, DMK workers distributed welfare scheme assistance in various parts of the district. At Kalaignar Arivalayam, cadres garlanded the statue of Karunanidhi. The event was led by central district secretary K Vairamani in the presence of mayor M Anbazhagan.In Thanjavur, MP S Murasoli, Thiruvaiyaru MLA Durai Chandrasekaran, and former MP S S Palanimanickam led a rally, garlanded Karunanidhi’s statue at Old bus stand and distributed sweets to the public.
