History-sheeter arrested in road rage assault case
Vanchiyoor Police on Saturday arrested a history-sheeter for allegedly assaulting a man and his teenage son after they questioned him for blocking a road at Sreekanteswaram.
The arrested accused was identified as Shyamkumar alias Thakaraparambu Kuttan. Police said efforts are underway to trace another accused, Arun, who allegedly participated in the assault. The police have said that the accused faces several criminal cases against him.
According to police, the incident occurred around 8.30pm on Friday when Rajesh Kumar (53), a BSNL employee, and his son Abhinav were returning home on a motorcycle after the latter’s tuition class. Police said Shyamkumar had allegedly parked his car in the middle of the road and was engaged in a conversation with a friend, causing a traffic bottleneck.
When Rajesh Kumar honked and asked him to move the vehicle to allow other motorists to pass, Shyamkumar allegedly became enraged. He and Arun then allegedly attacked the father and son.
The accused fled the spot after local residents gathered at the scene. The injured were later shifted to a private hospital for treatment.
Police said Rajesh Kumar sustained a fracture in the assault, while Abhinav suffered injuries to his face. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and further investigation is underway. .
