PM set for Surat visit with ₹18,000 crore project push
Surat: The city is gearing up for a high-profile visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, with the city set to host the launch and foundation of projects worth over Rs 18,000 crore — underscoring Gujarat’s continued push on infrastructure and industrial growth.
City and district authorities have begun preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit. Officials said Modi is likely to travel to Daman before arriving in Surat.
Senior district officials said the PM will first visit an industrial plant in Hazira and then address a public event at the Indoor Stadium, for a gathering of around 7,000 people.
According to the district administration, the event will include the inauguration and foundation-laying of development projects across multiple departments of the state govt and the Surat Municipal Corporation, with a total estimated value of over Rs 18,000 crore.
Authorities are working to complete arrangements related to public access, official movement and venue management in advance.
Elaborate security measures are being put in place across the city and South Gujarat to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit. Top state leaders are also likely to join the Prime Minister during the events.
A high-level review meeting was recently held to assess preparedness. Officials discussed security arrangements, traffic regulation, parking management, movement of beneficiaries and dignitaries, and other logistical requirements linked to the visit. Departments reviewed the overall planning framework and assessed readiness for the programme.
