Daltonganj: The house listing and household census exercise, part of Census 2027, which started in Jharkhand on May 16, has covered only 3.88% of the targeted groups across the state in the past 14 days, a report revealed.A house listing block (HLB) progress report for Jharkhand till 7:13 am on May 30, revealed only 2,733 out of 70,521 house listing blocks in the state have been covered. Also, house listing and house census have not started in more than 15,000 house listing blocks0. The exercise, across 24 districts and 9 municipal corporation, is scheduled to be completed by June 14.Stating that achieving 100% coverage by June 14 would be difficult, sources claimed that pre-monsoon rain and strong winds may cause hurdles in the exercise.District-wise figures showed sharp contrasts. Koderma has covered 25.14% of the target, Godda 13.54%, Latehar 9.98%, Palamu 3.53%, Bokaro 1.12%, Gumla 1.11%, Ramgarh 0.87%, and Ranchi 0.12%.Sources attributed the delay to a shortage of officers in-charge, especially block development officers or circle officers. In Palamu, district census officer Kundan Kumar, who is also the additional collector, said, “We are suffering from officers’ crunch. It’s affecting the pace of work.”
