CBI arrests banker for taking bribe of Rs 77,000
Ranchi: CBI sleuths arrested the branch manager of a public sector bank in Godda district on Monday for allegedly demanding bribes amounting to Rs 77,000 to process a claim under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and removing the curbs on withdrawal from a bank account, the agency said on Tuesday.The accused, identified as Rohit Kumar Singh, was posted in Dumaria branch of the bank.CBI added that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 for processing the claims under the insurance scheme amounting to Rs 2 lakh pertaining to the complainant’s deceased mother. He had also asked for an additional Rs 17,000 for lifting the curb on withdrawal of Rs 35,000 from a bank account which was in the name of the complainant’s mother but was transferred to him after her death.CBI stated that after registering a case on Sunday, it laid a trap and apprehended Singh while he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount on Monday. The agency said that it also conducted searches in the office and residence of the accused, adding that further investigation is underway.
