CAF constable dies by suicide at security camp
Raipur: A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) constable died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself with his service rifle at a security camp in Kondagaon district on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Jogendra Netam of the 5th Battalion, was posted at the Urandabeda camp in Farasgaon subdivision. Police said he was on duty when he allegedly used his INSAS service rifle to shoot himself.
Kondagaon SP Pankaj Chandra said preliminary findings suggest the constable may have taken the step due to stress linked to personal reasons, though the exact cause will be confirmed after a detailed investigation.
According to police officials, this is the first reported case of a security personnel engaged in anti-Naxal operations in the Bastar region taking his own life since the state govt declared the region free of armed Maoist presence on March 31 this year.
