Patna: With only a few days left before the closure of the admission process on June 6, Patliputra University (PPU) has received an overwhelming response from students seeking admission to Degree Part-I courses for the academic session 2026-30 under the four-year choice based credit system (CBCS).
According to PPU dean of students’ welfare (DSW)
Rajeev Ranjan, nearly 85,000 students have submitted online applications for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by constituent, affiliated and 16 newly established degree colleges under the university jurisdiction. This year the university has made available around 1.25 lakh seats across various streams and disciplines, he said.
Admission trends indicate that traditional subjects in the arts and science streams continue to attract the largest number of applicants. In the arts stream, history has emerged as the most sought-after subject, drawing the highest number of applications (18,105) followed by geography (7,469); political science (8,776); Hindi (7,188); English (1,999); economics (323); psychology (1,751) and commerce (2,598), the DSW said.
Similarly in the science stream, zoology remains the first choice among students, maintaining its popularity over the years with 11,022 applications received so far.
Other science subjects such as botany has got 3,532 followed by chemistry (2,893), physics (6,083) and mathematics (2,946) have also witnessed significant demand.
However, the admission data has revealed a declining interest among students in classical and regional languages, he said, adding subjects such as Sanskrit (157), Pali (15), Prakrit (one), Magahi (5), Maithili (12), Persian (nil), Buddhist studies (nil) and other regional language courses have attracted comparatively fewer applicants, reflecting a growing preference for subjects perceived to offer better career opportunities and competitive examination prospects.
According to the DSW, the admission process is progressing smoothly through the online Samarth portal and urged students who have not yet applied to complete the formalities before the June 6 deadline.
The first merit list is expected to be released shortly after the conclusion of the application process, he said, adding the available seats would adequately accommodate the applicants while emphasising the university’s commitment to implementing the CBCS framework effectively for the new academic session as envisaged under National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
