Buxar govt teachers resent summer training, minister assures to intervene
Buxar: Nearly 490 govt school teachers in Buxar are unhappy over being nominated through the e-Shiksha Kosh portal of the education department for a five-day training programme scheduled from June 1 to 5 at DIET and CTE, Dumraon. The programme, being organised by District Programme Officer (SSA) Chandan Dwivedi under the directions of SCERT, Patna, coincides with the officially declared summer vacation period from June 1 to 21, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among teachers. Several teachers have urged the education department to reconsider the timing and reschedule the programme after schools reopen. Many teachers have objected to the timing, stating that the compulsory training during vacation disrupts their personal schedules and defeats the purpose of the break. “Summer vacation is meant for rest, family responsibilities and personal work. Conducting mandatory training during this period is unfair,” said a government school teacher on condition of anonymity.Echoing similar concerns, teacher Savita Singh said, “We are always willing to participate in professional development programmes, but these should be conducted during regular working days, not during officially declared holidays.”
Several teachers said that while training is essential for improving classroom teaching, it should not come at the cost of teachers’ legitimate vacation period.Education department officials, however, defended the decision, stating that the training is aimed at strengthening teaching skills and enhancing academic quality in govt schools. They added that the programme primarily targets teachers who could not attend earlier sessions due to census duties and other official assignments during the 2025–26 academic session.Meanwhile, teachers across the district have appealed to state education minister Mithilesh Kumar Tiwari to intervene in the matter. The minister acknowledged the concerns and said he would discuss the issue with concerned officials. “Teachers in Buxar are hopeful that the department will take note of their grievances and adopt a more convenient schedule for such programmes,” said Ajeet Pal Singh, district secretary of Buxar Zila Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh.
