Repair work on Nashik Road flyover starts

Nashik: Repair works on the Nashik Road flyover, a key stretch on the Nashik-Pune highway, has begun with authorities initiating surface scraping ahead of asphalting, raising hopes among commuters that the long-pending overhaul will be completed before the monsoon.

The traffic police confirmed that work is underway and being expedited to meet the pre-monsoon deadline. One side of the flyover was closed to traffic on Friday night to facilitate initial scraping operations.

The flyover, which handles heavy traffic towards Sinnar, Sangamner, Shirdi, Pune and access to the Samruddhi expressway, has been in poor condition for several months, with authorities largely relying on temporary patchwork since last year’s monsoon.

Despite expectations of major repairs around Diwali, the structure remained neglected, leaving motorists to navigate potholes and uneven surfaces throughout the year.

Regular commuters said the deterioration has made travel both slow and risky. “The flyover is struggling to handle the heavy traffic volume. Moreover, due to the poor road surface, motorists have to drive very cautiously. Regular commuters know exactly which spots are dangerous; some have not been repaired at all since last year,” said Ashish Ahire, a Nashik Road resident.

The flyover’s condition has been a long-standing concern given its strategic importance and constant traffic load, particularly from commercial vehicles.

With work now finally underway, authorities aim to resurface the stretch fully before the onset of rains, even as commuters remain cautiously optimistic about timely completion.
