Nashik cops grill Sambhajinagar AIMIM corporator over links to TCS employee
Nashik: The city police on Thursday questioned an AIMIM corporator from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for over four hours to probe his alleged role in sheltering a woman accused in a sexual harassment and hurting religious sentiments case, even as a Special Investigation Team (SIT) deepened its inquiry into the broader network behind the incident.
The accused woman, a TCS employee, had evaded arrest for several days after being named in a case registered at the Deolali Camp police station before being eventually apprehended from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, said the AIMIM corporator’s role has come under scrutiny for allegedly aiding the accused during her time on the run. “The corporator from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was involved in providing shelter to the accused woman and consequently, both him and the owner of the house where she stayed have been named as co-accused in the complaint registered at the Deolali Camp,” the officer said.
The police have constituted a Special Investigation Team, led by ACP Sandeep Mitke, to probe nine related cases involving eight accused people, including two women, all of whom are currently in custody.
The police said key evidence has already been gathered, particularly regarding how the accused managed to secure accommodation while evading arrest. The police said they have established that keys to a house in Sambhajinagar were handed over to the woman and her family members, leading to the house owner being named as a co-accused.
The ongoing questioning of the corporator is aimed at establishing the deeper links and possible coordination. An investigating officer said, “The primary task now is to determine the exact nature of the link between the corporator and the accused woman, including who introduced them, the purpose of the introduction, and whether any intermediaries were involved. We are also probing the underlying intentions and the specific reasons why the woman, who belongs to Nashik and resides in Mumbai, was provided shelter in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar?”
