Melghat region’s ‘Kutir’ saree brand receives global acclaim
Amravati: The skills of tribal and rural women from remote region of Melghat in Amravati district have now received major recognition at the international level. A saree from ‘Kutir' brand, made by the women of Kasturba Solar Khadi Mahila Samiti under Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board's Decentralized Solar Charkha Cluster Programme, has made a mark globally. At the ‘Live Well, Live Naturally' programme held in Delhi, the elegant saree made from solar charkha fabric was presented to Barbara O'Neill, well-known Australian health and natural lifestyle advocate. Impressed by the saree's excellent quality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship, O'Neill wore the same saree while addressing audience at her major event in Mumbai. Pradeep Chechare, District Village Industries Officer of Amravati, said, "‘From Melghat to the World' is no longer just a dream. Woven by hands of rural women, it has become an inspiring success story.‘Kutir' brand has a new identity on the global stage."
