Two held for molesting women train passengers in Mumbai Metropolitan Region
Mumbai/Thane: Two men were arrested for allegedly molesting women train passengers in two separate incidents in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
A 32-year-old man was arrested by the Govt Railway Police (GRP) for molesting a 22-year-old woman at Andheri railway station on Thursday morning. The accused was identified as Ishaan Doshi. Police said he works at a medical store.
The woman was on her way to work. She was using the staircase to reach the foot of the overbridge on platform no. 7 f Andheri station, when the accused touched her inappropriately.
The victim raised an alarm. The other passengers rushed to her aid. They chased and caught Doshi before handing him over to the GRP. He was taken to the Andheri GRP chowky and taken into custody.
In another incident, the GRP arrested a 30-year-old man on Friday for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old woman aboard a Kalyan-bound local train. The incident occurred during the late morning hours.
According to police officials, the woman was travelling on a Kalyan-bound local train at 11:20 am when she was molested. The accused reportedly approached the woman, flashed her, and proceeded to touch her inappropriately from behind. Despite the distressing nature of the encounter, the victim displayed immense courage by immediately raising an alarm and alerting the authorities the moment she arrived at the station.
Following a detailed statement from the victim, the Kalyan GRP acted with urgency, managing to apprehend the perpetrator shortly after the incident was reported. The man has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those about assault or use of criminal force with the intent to outrage a woman’s modesty, sexual harassment, and acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty, said a police officer.
Senior officials reiterated that the safety of female commuters remains their absolute top priority, and a thorough investigation is currently underway.
