Matrimonial fraudster who duped women of Rs 90 lakh held at Delhi airport

Thane: A 37-year-old man, who allegedly created a fake profile on a matrimonial website and lured several women into fake marriages before defrauding them of a total Rs 90 lakh on the pretext of arranging overseas employment and foreign trips, has been arrested by Kasarvadavali police. The accused, Suresh Ravindra, was apprehended at Delhi airport upon his return from Russia earlier this month, said police.

Last month, a Thane woman lodged a complaint against Ravindra at Kasarvadavali police station. She claimed that he contacted her through the matrimonial portal, and after she accepted his proposal, staged a fake marriage at a temple. He then allegedly took Rs 48 lakh from her and spent the money on himself. When she demanded her money back, he allegedly threatened to circulate her intimate videos on social media.

During the probe, Kasarvadavali police found that Ravindra was also wanted in Telangana for cheating a woman of Rs 33 lakh, and in Visakhapatnam, for duping another woman of Rs 9 lakh.

Following technical surveillance that traced him to Russia, an LOC was issued. Immigration officials detained him at Delhi airport upon his return on June 2. He has since been remanded in police custody and has confessed to defrauding at least four women.

The operation was led by Kasarvadavali senior inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar.
