Family feud leaves 52yo woman, daughter-in-law hospitalised

Bijnor: A family dispute in Gallakheri village under Syohara police station limits in Bijnor district left a 52-year-old woman and her 25-year-old daughter-in-law hospitalised on Tuesday night.

Police said Abhikant Kumar alias Deepak had entered into a love marriage with Deepanshi against his family’s wishes, leading to frequent tensions within the household.

During an argument, Deepanshi allegedly poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze, while her mother-in-law, Mithlesh, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance. Both were initially rushed to a hospital in Bijnor. Police said Mithlesh’s condition is stable and she is undergoing treatment, while Deepanshi, who suffered severe burn injuries, was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, where her condition remains critical.

Dhampur CO Anjani Kumar Chaturvedi said, “Mithlesh and her daughter-in-law, Deepanshi, had been quarrelling for the past few days. When the dispute escalated, Deepanshi allegedly set herself on fire after pouring petrol on her body. Around the same time, Mithlesh allegedly consumed a poisonous substance.”
