Bijnor: Two women were injured after a leopard attacked a group of women who were collecting fodder for their cattle near Mahmoodpur Buzurg village of Nethaur in Bijnor district around 9am on Sunday.
Residents said Neeta, 30, along with other women from the village, was gathering fodder in the fields when the leopard attacked her. Hearing her cries for help, the other women raised an alarm, prompting the animal to flee. However, while escaping, the leopard attacked another woman, Najma, 50, causing serious injuries. The injured women were taken to the community health centre, where officials said their condition is stable.
The attack triggered fear among residents, who expressed concern over the increasing movement of wild animals near inhabited areas. Forest department officials arrived at the spot and examined leopard pugmarks in the area.
Authorities have assured villagers that necessary measures are being taken to prevent further attacks. Bijnor divisional forest officer Jai Singh Kushwah said a cage would be installed soon to capture the leopard and monitor its movement. Residents have been advised to remain cautious while working in fields and avoid venturing into isolated areas alone.
