Madurai/Theni: A special sub-inspector from Madurai city police has been placed under suspension following an allegation of corruption, and a sub-inspector from Theni has been suspended for involvement in a quarrel while joining duty.The SSI of the Mathichiyam police station, S Mahendran, faced disciplinary action after a video clip of him allegedly demanding a bribe from a lorry driver went viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place on Monday in the Othakadai area, where the officer was seen harassing a driver who was in the process of unloading goods. The video sparked public outrage and prompted the department to take swift action.In a separate incident, sub-inspector P Ramapandian, attached with the Pattiveeranpatty police station in Dindigul district, was relieved on May 26 on transfer to Theni district. While joining at the Andipatti police station, he was involved in a quarrel on May 30. A case was registered against the SI. In view of the misconduct, the officer has been placed under suspension effective from Tuesday.In Kanyakumari district, police constable Arul was transferred to armed reserve after he was involved in an allegation of assault with some individuals.
