Gaurav Kumar takes charge as Madurai corpn commissioner

Madurai: IAS officer Gaurav Kumar assumed charge as commissioner of the Madurai City Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.A 2020-batch IAS officer, Kumar began his career as assistant collector (training) in Dharmapuri in 2021. He later served as sub-collector of Tuticorin in 2022 and additional collector (development) in Dharmapuri in 2023. Before his latest posting, he was serving as executive director of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.Kumar succeeds Chitra Vijayan, a 2019-batch IAS officer, who was appointed Madurai corporation commissioner in late 2025. She has been transferred to the Greater Chennai Corporation as regional deputy commissioner (North).
