Madurai: The organs of a 27-year-old man and a 21-year-old gave a fresh lease of life to several people awaiting them in the last two days.Sevugapandi, 27, from Virudhunagar district, who sustained head injury in a road accident, was declared brain dead at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, and his organs were donated and allotted to recipient hospitals, officials said. He was riding a bike when he was hit by a two-wheeler on Wednesday in Sivaganga. He was referred from Virudhunagar Medical College Hospital to the Triage, trauma care centre at Madurai GRH on Thursday where he was declared brain dead on Friday.After his relatives consented to donate his organs, they were harvested at the emergency operation theatre on Saturday. One kidney, skin, and corneas were donated to GRH. The other kidney was donated to Kavery Medical Centre and Hospital in Thenur, and the liver to Vadamaliyan Hospital in Madurai. Around seven people benefited from the organ donation.The post-mortem was conducted at GRH, and the body handed over to relatives. The administration of Government Rajaji Hospital and Madurai Medical College paid homage and Virudhunagar district administration gave state honours to the departed soul.Jagan, 21, was involved in an accident near Palani bypass on Ottanchathiram - Coimbatore Road while riding a two-wheeler. He was admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore for treatment but succumbed to brain death on Friday around 3pm. After his organs were donated, funeral was held with state honours on Saturday.
