Ludhiana: A mishap was averted on Sunday after the shuttering of an under-construction showroom collapsed during preparations for laying the roof slab on Raikot Road in Jagraon. The incident took place near a mosque on Raikot Road, close to the Barnala-Jalandhar Highway.
Sources said that workers were installing shuttering for the roof when the structure suddenly gave way and came crashing down, triggering panic in the area.
They added that the collapse occurred within seconds, forcing people at the site to run for safety.
As per sources, as it was a Sunday and traffic movement was relatively light, no casualties were reported. However, they added that two motorcycles parked near the construction site were badly damaged.
Following the incident, a portion of the road was temporarily closed, and traffic was diverted through alternate routes to ensure public safety and facilitate the removal of debris.
Residents said that high-tension power lines pass close to the under-construction building. They said the consequences could have been severe had the collapsing structure come into contact with the power cables, potentially causing a major electrical accident and damage to infrastructure.
