Rain in Ludhiana
Ludhiana: Recurrent thunderstorms and an influx of rainy days across May delivered Ludhiana its coolest average monthly temperatures in three years, providing residents with vital relief from the intense seasonal heat.Data released by the Meteorological Department shows the industrial hub’s monthly maximum temperature averaged 38.0 degrees Celsius, while the minimum averaged 23.3 degrees Celsius—the mildest conditions recorded since the anomaly of 2023.Surinder Pal, director of the Meteorological Department in Chandigarh, attributed the shift directly to localized weather disturbances. He noted that frequent atmospheric disruptions effectively suppressed the region’s typical late-spring temperature spikes. While the month featured sporadic heatwaves—pushing a single-day maximum to a scorching 44.2 degrees Celsius—regular rainfall intervals repeatedly broke the hot spells. Ludhiana led Punjab’s major cities in total monthly precipitation, logging 37.8 millimeters to outpace both Patiala and Amritsar.Meteorological officials predict the volatile weather pattern will persist into early June, with light rain expected to hold local daytime temperatures to a mild 34 to 35 degrees Celsius over the coming days.
