Cong seeks probe into BJP leaders’ assets, alleges bid to target Ajay Rai
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress on Friday demanded a probe into the assets of BJP ministers, MPs and MLAs, alleging that it was trying to malign the image of state Congress president Ajay Rai through a “politically motivated campaign”.
“The BJP is seeking an inquiry into Ajay Rai’s assets while ignoring allegations of corruption within their own ranks,” said party’s media department chairman and former minister CP Rai.
He alleged that Rai was being targeted after he visited Mahoba recently to meet the family of a Dalit student who was allegedly abducted and assaulted. “Instead of standing with the victim’s family, the govt tried to stop Ajay Rai from reaching there. When he did, BJP launched a campaign against him,” Rai said.
He claimed that an AI-generated video was circulated to falsely portray Ajay Rai as using objectionable language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a fake case was registered against Ajay Rai.
Claiming that the BJP govt was “neck-deep in corruption”, Rai cited alleged irregularities in civic and infrastructure projects and claimed the ruling party had no moral ground to seek an inquiry into opposition leaders.
