Tata Power solar targets three lakh rooftop installations in UP, eyes 12–15% market share
Lucknow: Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) will install three lakh rooftop solar systems across Uttar Pradesh in the next three years, banking on strong govt incentives, innovative financing models and growing consumer demand. The company launched its flagship 'Ghar Ghar Solar' campaign in Lucknow on Friday alongside Tata Power Battery Storage Solutions, aimed at accelerating rooftop solar adoption across urban, semi-urban and rural areas of the state.Managing director and CEO of TPREL Sanjay Banga said that the company expects to maintain a 12-15% share in Uttar Pradesh's rooftop solar market and plans to leverage its network of 52 channel partners across all districts to ensure statewide coverage. “We plan to undertake 3 lakh rooftop solar installations across Uttar Pradesh over the next three years, targeting a cumulative capacity of 1,000 MWp,” he said.To address affordability concerns, Tata Power has introduced a zero-down-payment financing scheme, allowing customers to install rooftop solar systems without upfront investment. The company has also launched integrated solar-plus-battery-storage solutions that provide backup power during grid outages, a feature expected to be particularly beneficial in rural areas.
Banga said the company has launched the 'Mera Gaon, Mera Solar' programme to increase awareness and adoption in villages. The initiative includes incentives for channel partners and community benefits such as solarisation of schools and healthcare facilities.Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, consumers receive a central subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt, while the Uttar Pradesh govt provides an additional subsidy of Rs 15,000 per kilowatt. Combined benefits can reach up to Rs 1.08 lakh for systems up to 3 kW, making rooftop solar increasingly affordable for households.Tata Power CEO and managing director Praveer Sinha said, “Uttar Pradesh is among the most promising rooftop solar markets in the country. With support from both the Centre and the state govt, it has emerged as the second-largest rooftop solar market after Gujarat. We believe Uttar Pradesh has the potential to become the number one rooftop solar state in India.”
