Closure row sparks protest at girls’ school
Lucknow: Students and teachers of Vidya Mandir Girls High School on Saturday staged protest outside their institution following reports that their school will be closed.
The school has 250 students and fate of all of them hangs in balance as a legal dispute has led to closure of the 90-year-old institution. “We do not know where we will study now. We have a right to education,” said class nine student Aastha Kumari. “If the school remains closed, we may not be able to appear in board exams,” said class ten student Priya Sharma.
Another class ten student Riya Singh stated that they do not know where we will go for classes after summer vacation and demanded chief minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene and save their school.
Samajwadi Party MLA, Ravidas Mehrotra also reached the site and criticized the action, saying it goes against govt’s “Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao” slogan. District Inspector of Schools Devendra Kumar Pandey said, “We are looking into the matter. The next hearing of the case will take place on July 2 in the district court.”
