20-year-old kills father, dumps body with friend’s aid; both arrested

Kolhapur: The police on Wednesday arrested a 20-year-old man and his friend for allegedly murdering his 44-year-old father and dumping the body in an unused well in Shiye village of Karvir tehsil.

The victim, identified as Firoz Mujawar, was found with a deep head injury in a well two days ago, prompting the police to suspect foul play. The police traced the crime to Mujawar’s son Rehan, and his neighbour Veerpasha Jahagirdar (20) after analysing CCTV footage from the house to the well.

A local crime branch officer said, “We spotted suspicious activities in CCTV cameras installed in the surroundings of the house and the well. We found out that the two men were 20-year-old Rehan, who is the son of the deceased man, and Veerpasha (20), Rehan’s friend from the neighbourhood. Rehan confessed that he killed his father using a sharp and heavy object on the night of May 29. He said that his father used to abuse and beat both him and his mother every day under the influence of alcohol. With the help of his friend, he dumped the body in an unused well. Moreover, to avoid suspicion, Rehan had also registered a missing complaint with the Shiye police station.”

Police said Mujawar, who ran a chicken shop, lived with his wife and son. The accused allegedly used a heavy sharp weapon from the shop to attack him.
