Kottayam: A wild elephant destroyed the gate of a house in Laha along Sabarimala route in Pathanamthitta around 11.30pm on Monday.
Laha resident Sabu Khan’s house had come under attack. On hearing a loud noise, Khan came out of his house and he saw the fallen gate and a wild elephant standing with its trunk raised and trumpeting. Two two-wheelers in neighbouring houses were also found damaged.
The wild elephant retreated after nearby residents scared it away. However, the elephant, which moved along the road, descended into a nearby agricultural field. It then destroyed coconut trees and banana plants. The elephant later returned to the forest after a long time.
Locals said Rajampara forest near Laha has long been known to witness wild elephant visits.
