Nine districts in Kerala on yellow alert today
Kochi: India meteorological department (IMD) issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall for nine districts on Monday and 10 districts on Tuesday. The state will be on heavy rainfall alert on Wednesday and Thursday, with some districts on orange alert.All districts, except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Palakkad, Idukki and Kasaragod, will be on yellow alert on Monday. On Tuesday, all districts, except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kannur and Kasaragod, will be on yellow alert. On Wednesday, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram will be on orange alert with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall warning and the remaining districts on yellow warning. On Thursday, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode will be on orange alert.IMD said conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into more parts of Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep Islands, some parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu and more parts of Bay of Bengal in the next three to four days.Meanwhile, Kerala received normal seasonal rainfall between March 1 and May 31. However, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur recorded deficient rain this season. The highest deficiency was reported in Palakkad with 40% departure against the normal. Only Alappuzha and Kozhikode received excess rain.
