WAYANAD: Around 150 students of an aided upper primary school in Kerala's Wayanad have reported fever and vomiting over the past three days, while 38 children have been hospitalised, officials said on Saturday.
The affected children are students of Mar Baselios Aided Upper Primary School. Of them, 38 students who continued to experience health issues have been admitted to Bathery Taluk Hospital for treatment.
According to Health officials said, there is no immediate cause for concern. As a precaution, the school has been closed for a week.
A special ward has been arranged at the hospital to treat the affected students. One teacher from the school has also reported feeling unwell.
Local panchayat representatives who visited the hospital said the children are currently in a stable condition.
According to officials, some students began showing symptoms on 1 June. However, the exact cause of the illness has not yet been identified.
Doctors said the Health Department has collected samples and sent them for testing to determine what caused the outbreak.
