Jaipur:
Rajasthan Congress functionaries, including Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully and PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra Saturday joined
MGNREGA workers for a symbolic shramdaan in Farkiya village of Ajmer district, accusing the
BJP govt in the state and Centre of trying to weaken the rural jobs scheme.
Jully, Dotasra and Congress district presidents from Rajasthan and Delhi did manual work alongside MGNREGA labourers and interacted with them to hear their concerns.
Jully said the Congress is committed to the welfare of the poorest and alleged the BJP was attempting to dilute MGNREGA, calling it the backbone of rural employment and public welfare.
“Every Congress worker has come with determination to protect the rights of the people and realise Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Sarvodaya,” Jully said.
Dotasra targeted the Modi govt, alleging it was undermining the scheme. “Modi govt is snatching away the right to work by dismantling MGNREGA, but Congress party will fight every battle for workers’ rights,” he said.
Dotasra said the party would raise labour and rural employment issues in the Rajasthan Assembly and parliament to ensure workers receive dignity, fair opportunities and protection of their rights.
