Indore: A 19-year-old was arrested and a juvenile taken into custody for stealing cigarettes, tobacco products and other items worth around Rs 4 lakh from a paan shop in Bhanwarkuan area.
Bhanwarkuan police station in-charge Santosh Dudhi said that the burglary took place in early hours of Saturday at Karnawat Paan Shop near Khandwa Naka. Two persons broke the shop’s tin shed and decamped with cartons of premium-brand cigarettes, gutkha pouches, lighters and other merchandise.
Following a complaint by shop owner, Bhanwarkuan police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS. A special team scanned footage of nearly 250 CCTV cameras installed across the area and identified the accused and recovered the stolen goods.
Police arrested Jitu alias Rider, a resident of Kamal Nagar in Musakhedi, while a juvenile from Mayur Nagar was taken into custody under the provisions of Juvenile Justice Act. The recovered property, including cigarette cartons, tobacco pouches and other stolen articles, is estimated to be worth around Rs 4 lakh.
Investigators said Jitu has a criminal background and several cases are already registered against him.
