Dibrugarh University & Bangladesh envoy discuss academic, research ties

Dibrugarh: Assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh in Guwahati, Zikrul Hasan Fahad, held a meeting at Dibrugarh University on Monday to strengthen academic cooperation and research collaboration between the university and institutions in Bangladesh.Vice-chancellor Jiten Hazarika welcomed the assistant high commissioner and highlighted the longstanding cultural and educational links between India and Bangladesh. Discussions centred on faculty and student exchange, joint research projects and formal educational partnerships. Participants explored avenues for credit transfer, short-term mobility programmes, joint seminars and collaborative research in areas of mutual interest.“Our shared history and cultural affinities provide a strong foundation for academic partnerships. We look forward to concrete programmes that will benefit students and faculty on both sides,” the vice-chancellor said.The assistant high commissioner expressed Bangladesh’s interest in expanding educational ties and commended the university’s initiatives.The university’s top administrative and academic leadership took part in the meeting. University registrar Paramananda Sonowal discussed ways to streamline administrative framework for seamless international partnerships.​Offering key insights into the welfare and integration of international scholars, Surajit Borkotokey, director of the office of international affairs and dean of student affairs, highlighted the university’s readiness to support Bangladeshi students.Internal Quality Assurance Cell director Ankur Bharali discussed quality assurance frameworks and the importance of maintaining academic standards in joint programmes. Deb Chakraborty, chairperson of the Centre for Studies on Bangladesh and Myanmar, offered subject-matter insights and suggested potential thematic areas for collaborative research, including regional studies, environmental science and public health.The meeting was coordinated by Bahniman Boruah, who presented the agenda and facilitated the session. Participants agreed to draft an MoU framework and set up a joint working group to prepare detailed proposals for exchange programmes and research collaborations.
