Silchar: Cachar Police on Tuesday seized 1,420 bottles of banned cough syrup and arrested one person during a raid in the district’s Udharbond area.The arrested individual has been identified as Azizur Haque Barbhuiya, a resident of Durganagar in Udharbond.Acting on specific intelligence inputs about alleged hoarding of contraband, a team from the Udharbond police station conducted a surprise raid at a warehouse owned by Barbhuiya in Durganagar. Police recovered the prohibited cough syrup during the search, alleging it was stored for illegal distribution in the region.The entire consignment was confiscated. Police sources said the market value of the seized contraband runs into several lakh rupees on the black market.“The accused was arrested from the spot and is currently under interrogation. We are investigating the supply chain to determine if a larger trafficking network is operating across the district and to identify other individuals linked to this racket,” a senior police official said.Police said a case has been registered under relevant sections and further investigation is underway.
