Aizawl: Police in Saitual district bordering
Manipur seized 45.871 kg of opium fluid on the outskirts of Keifang town on Tuesday and arrested two persons, a press statement issued by H Ramthlengliana, IGP and chief public relation officer of the state police, said on Wednesday.
Ramthlengliana said a car bearing Uttar Pradesh registration was intercepted by the Saitual Police team. The vehicle was driven by Somraj (32) and was proceeding from Manipur towards Aizawl. On checking the vehicle, 71 packets of opium fluid were seized.
Besides the driver, Kailash (28) of Narsing Nagar, Dhawa-1, Jodhpur, Rajasthan was also arrested in this connection. The seized contraband has an estimated illicit market value of approximately Rs 2.29 crore. A criminal case under section 18(b)/25/29 Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985 was registered at Saitual Police Station and further investigation is underway.
In another drug seizure, police officials of Champhai district bordering Myanmar seized 29 grams of heroin, concealed inside a running shoe allegedly belonging to Vanlalnghaka (36) of Tualcheng village, Champhai district, on Monday. The vehicle in which Vanlalnghaka was travelling was stopped at Khankawn Police check gate on the western outskirts of Champhai town.
A case under section 21(b) Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985 was registered at Champhai Police Station.
