New courses, more seats approved for Gurgaon colleges
Gurgaon: In a push to strengthen higher education, directorate of higher education has approved a fresh expansion of courses and seats in govt colleges across Haryana for the academic session 2026-27, with the city emerging as a key focus district.Some new courses at Gurgaon colleges include: electronics, biotechnology and remote sensing and geographical information systems. The move comes after a similar rollout on May 8 and reflects the rising demand for quality, job-oriented education in the region. Officials said that earlier in the session, morning courses were introduced and seats were increased in multiple subjects, and this latest expansion further builds on that effort.Admission nodal officer at Govt College, Sector 9, Sanjay Katiyal told TOI, “The initiative will help students access quality education locally, reducing migration and boosting career prospects.” With a steady increase in student enrolment over the past few years and the implementation of National Education Policy, authorities are focusing on diversifying academic offerings and enhancing access to modern, industry-relevant programmes within the district.
As part of the latest approvals, Govt College, Jatoli Heli Mandi, will introduce BSc life sciences with biotechnology, offering 40 seats, a course seen as highly relevant given the expanding scope of biotechnology careers.Govt College, Sidhrawali, will launch a postgraduate diploma in remote sensing and geographical information systems (GIS), also with 40 seats, catering to emerging opportunities in urban planning, mapping and geospatial technology.Govt College, Gurgaon Sector 9, has received a dual boost with the introduction of MSc physics (40 seats) and an increase of 30 seats in MCom, providing greater opportunities for science and commerce students.Similarly, Govt Girls College, Sector 14, will offer MSc mathematics with 40 seats, while Govt College, Sector 52, will introduce BBA for the first time with an intake of 40 students. In Farrukhnagar, Govt College, Sultanpur, will start psychology with 40 seats, keeping in view the growing importance of mental health studies.Dronacharya Govt College will introduce electronics for BSc physical science students with 40 seats, enhancing technical learning options.
