Bhopal tourist killed in Goa crash

A 65-year-old tourist from Bhopal, Bhagat Ram Sharma, died after a speeding SUV allegedly rammed into his Hyundai i20 from behind at Happy Bar junction in Assagao. Police said the impact was severe, and he was declared dead at the scene, triggering shock among family members travelling with him.

Family members injured, infant safe

Two occupants of the hatchback sustained minor injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their condition is stable. A five-month-old infant who was also in the car escaped unhurt and has been kept under medical observation as a precautionary measure.

Seat-switch allegation after crash

Eyewitnesses alleged that occupants of the rented Mahindra Thar attempted to switch seats immediately after the collision. Locals claimed there was confusion over who was driving at the time, raising suspicion and tension at the accident spot.

Viral video captures tense moments

Videos circulating on social media show a male occupant of the Thar speaking on the phone, allegedly saying, “Papa, I was at the intersection”. The footage also shows extensive damage to the i20, with one side of the vehicle completely crushed.

Tension at accident spot

The incident led to heated scenes at the junction, with locals accusing the SUV occupants of trying to shield the actual driver. Police intervened to control the situation and said all allegations are being verified through investigation.

SUV seized, probe underway

Police have seized the rented Mahindra Thar and registered a case of rash and negligent driving causing death. CCTV footage, forensic evidence, eyewitness statements and viral clips are being examined to determine who was behind the wheel.
