Dehradun: Evening rains on Thursday resulted in several trees collapsing on Rajpur Road, Dehradun, resulting in severe traffic congestion along the entire stretch. Vehicles were diverted towards Canal Road.Commuters reported fallen trees opposite Rashtrapati Niketan, near Mussoorie diversion, SSP residence, Brahmkamal Chowk and several other spots on the stretch. A police booth at Brahmkamal Chowk also collapsed. In Garhi Cantt and along Supply Road as well, fallen trees and broken branches obstructed traffic movement.“The traffic was blocked all the way from Jakhan till Clock Tower due to the collapsed trees and had to be directed from one side,” posted a commuter on social media.Protesters in Ekta Vihar reported the storm destroying their tents.Power outages were also reported from the Rajpur and Malsi areas that are expected to last till Friday.“At least four trees collapsed at different points. Traffic was diverted in the late evening but the debris was cleared by night and traffic movement resumed gradually,” said Lokjeet Singh, superintendent of police, traffic.SDRF unit also lent assistance in clearing the collapsed trees on Rajpur Road, said officials.
