Tragedy strikes Mansa Devi temple

A stampede on the pedestrian route to Haridwar’s Mansa Devi temple on Saturday morning claimed 8 lives and injured 34 devotees.

Panic spread after a rumour about a snapped electric wire led to a sudden crowd surge, sparking the deadly stampede.

Injured rushed to hospitals

Emergency responders transported injured devotees to the district hospital; 14 critically hurt were referred to AIIMS Rishikesh.

Among the 34 injured were 20 men, 8 women, and 7 children — including two boys and five girls.

Police, SDRF, and rescue teams launched immediate relief efforts and worked to control the crowd and identify victims.

Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) conducted inspections and claimed no live wire or leakage caused the panic.

Chief minister ordered probe

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the injured in hospital and announced ₹2 lakh ex-gratia for each deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured, he ordered a magisterial inquiry

Haridwar mourned the tragic loss of life during what should have been a sacred pilgrimage; a detailed investigation is underway.
