Koraput: In a bid to ensure effective implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme in remote tribal areas, the district administration conducted an extensive voter awareness campaign in Rezingtal village, a habitation predominantly inhabited by the Lanjia Soura Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) under Gunupur block of Rayagada district on Saturday.
The outreach programme was led by Gunupur sub-collector and electoral registration officer for Gunupur assembly constituency, Abhishek Dudhal, who visited the village along with senior officials to monitor field-level activities related to the revision of electoral rolls on Saturday.
“The district administration is committed to ensuring that every eligible voter, including those residing in remote and inaccessible tribal areas, is included in the electoral rolls,” Dudhal said.
According to the sub-collector, a key highlight of the programme was the interaction between booth level officer Ajit Sabar and members of the Lanjia Soura PVTG community in their native Soura language. Sabar explained the objectives of the SIR programme and guided villagers on the procedures for inclusion of names in the voter list, correction of existing entries and updating of electoral records.
Similar SIR outreach activities will soon be completed in all villages inhabited by the Lanjia Soura community to ensure maximum voter coverage, Dudhal added.
Officials said special efforts were being made to reach voters in remote tribal pockets and improve the accuracy of electoral rolls. They noted that awareness campaigns conducted in local tribal languages among PVTG communities such as the Lanjia Soura would make the SIR programme more inclusive, participatory and citizen-centric.
“The SIR programme aims to maintain an accurate and inclusive voter list. Our focus is to reach every eligible citizen and ensure that no voter is left behind,” the sub-collector said.
