Newly-married woman dies by suicide on wedding night
Kendrapada: A 23-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself in the house of her in-laws’s on the first night of her marriage on Tuesday. The reasons behind the bride’s drastic step are yet to be known. The woman was identified as Santoshi Swain, daughter of Pravakar Swain of Duadia under Kujang police station. She married Kailash Mohapatra (28) of Baleipur village under Kujang police station limits on Saturday.Kailash found the door of the room locked from inside on Tuesday night, prompting him to look through the window. He found her hanging from the ceiling fan. The family members immediately informed police. “The door was broken in the presence of police and she was found hanging from the ceiling fan. We shifted her to the community health centre in Kujang, where doctors declared her dead. Police seized the body and sent it to the district headquarters hospital, Jagatsinghpur, for autopsy. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. An investigation is underway to find out what prompted the bride to kill herself, said IIC of Kujang police station Susant Kumar Acharya. The news of the suicide sent shockwaves among the relatives who gathered at their house. A pall of gloom has descended on a families of both bride and groom.
