Quick commerce delivery worker attempts self-immolation over bike seizure
Bareilly: A 32-year-old quick commerce delivery worker allegedly attempted self-immolation inside Baradari police station around 10.30pm on Tuesday after he failed to secure the release of his seized motorcycle, leaving him critically injured. Police said they are examining the circumstances leading to the incident.Akshay Kashyap, a resident of Fatehganj Paschimi Nagar Panchayat who worked as a delivery agent and lived in rented accommodation near Kotwali in Bareilly, suffered severe burns on his abdomen, back, face and hands. Police personnel present at the station extinguished the flames and rushed him to the district hospital, where his condition remained critical.Talking to TOI from his hospital bed, Kashyap said, "I had gone to Gangapur on Monday evening for a delivery and parked my motorcycle outside a shop with the key left in it." He alleged that during that time, a man identified as Vikas Sagar, a resident of Sanjay Nagar, attempted to flee with the bike and hit a man named Akash, injuring him.Responding officers from Baradari police station seized the motorcycle in connection with the accident and brought it to the police station.
Kashyap said, "An accident case was imposed on me, but it was later withdrawn." He added, "I went to the police station several times over the past two days, but my bike was not released. Without it, I cannot work."SHO Dhananjay Pandey said the motorcycle remained parked at the police station. "He was informed that if no complaint was filed in the accident case, the bike could be released within one or two days. However, if a case is registered, the vehicle would have to be released through the court," he said.
